Materiality analysis
For RAG's previous sustainability reports, the topics to be reported on were selected based on the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). In 2024, the principle of double materiality was applied for the first time – in accordance with the methodological guidelines of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
The analysis was carried out in workshops with the participation of RAG's topic managers and supported by external expertise. Impact assessments were used to determine the potential and actual impacts of RAG's business activities on people and the environment (known as the "inside-out perspective"). The "outside-in perspective" was also used to assess financial materiality. This involved analyzsing which financial risks and opportunities relating to sustainability aspects could influence RAG's activities from outside.
Internal company data, contextual external information and external expert assessments were used to evaluate the impacts, risks and opportunities. In addition, the views of potentially affected stakeholders were incorporated into the materiality analysis as part of a broad-based online survey.
The results of the materiality analysis were presented to and approved by the RAG Executive Board. Until the next update of the materiality analysis, the material sustainability topics will form the basis for RAG's sustainability strategy and reporting.
